HELEN LEVITT in 'The New Woman Behind the Camera'

Helen Levitt's work is on view in the huge international exhibition The New Woman Behind the Camera, that features more than 120 women photographers from over 20 countries.

Helen Levitt was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1913. In the early 1930s she began her lifelong exploration of photography and film. As early as 1943 the Museum of Modern Art in New York mounted a solo exhibition of her photographs. This early recognition shows an objective appreciation of Levitt's work in the male-dominated art world of her time.
