DIANE ARBUS & HELEN LEVITT

among the top ten of the most visited photographic exhibitions in 2019!

The Art Newspaper has just released the top ten of the most visited photographic exhibitions for 2019, which shows the huge success of the American photographers Diane Arbus and Helen Levitt.

Diane Arbus’s free exhibition Box of Ten Photographs at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. reached the first place of the rank, with over 6,000 visitors a day.

Yet even more impressive is the amazing reception of Helen Levitt’s retrospective at Albertina in Vienna that, with more than 4,000 visitors a day, reached the third place of the total rank, but the first place as the most visited paying exhibition of 2019. The comprehensive show, on view from 12 October 2018 through 27 January 2019, presented around 130 of Helen Levitt’s most iconic works.

Helen Levitt (1913-2009) began photographing street scenes in her hometown New York in the late 1930s. Her photographs captured the urban life, with a special gaze for children playing in the streets.
